Refrigeration Problems

Problem 7: 1
An ideal vapor refrigeration cycle uses Freon-12 as the working fluid. The condensing temperature is 35 oC and the evaporation temperature is -10 oC. Determine:
(a) the coefficient of performance for the cycle;
(b) the power required to produce 1 ton of refrigeration;
(c) the circulation rate of fluid for each ton of refrigeration

Answer:
(a) COP = 5.03
(b) Power/ton = 0.699 kW/ton
(c) circulation rate = 1.858 kg/min

Problem 7: 2
An ideal vapor refrigeration cycle uses ammonia as the working fluid. The condensing temperature is 100 oF and the evaporation temperature is 20 oF. Determine:
(a) the coefficient of performance for the cycle;
(b) the power required to produce 1 ton of refrigeration;
(c) the circulation rate of fluid for each ton of refrigeration

Answer:
(a) COP = 5.00
(b) Power/ton = 0.943 hp/ton
(c) circulation rate = 0.432 lbm/min
