Configuring External Viewers

In order to pass information on to the user, this Web Site makes extensive use of files formatted for external viewers. These viewers can be seperated into two groups: image viewers, such as Ghostview for Postscipt files or Adobe Acrobat Reader for PDF files, and application viewers, such as Maple V R4. The following documentation provides instructions for configuring your Web Browser to use these viewers.

Configuring Your Web Browser

To configure your Web Browser to automatically download the file and start the viewer when a particular file type is requested, you must create an "association" for the file type extension, ie. an .mws extension will launch Maple V R4 as a viewer.

Choose the appropriate link on the left side of this page depending on the browser you are currently using for instructions.

Image Viewers

All image and application viewers required for this website are available on the Polaris (Watstar) network.

If your machine is not connected to Polaris or does not have a Postscript viewer, the Ghostview postscript viewer can be downloaded from the following site:

Ghostview v.2.1
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/index.html

Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view .pdf files and can be downloaded for free from the following site:

Adobe Acrobat Reader
http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html

Application Viewers

Unfortunately Maple no longer offers a demo version of their software which can be used as a viewer. If your machine does not have Maple installed, you will need to purchase and install a copy of Maple in order to view and use the worksheets on the website.
